The lie that keeps anxious teens stuck (and how to let go)

You’re not behind. You’re not broken. You’re just stuck in someone else’s story—and it’s time to rewrite it.

Hey,

In this week’s episode of Block Out the Noise, I walked through lessons 15–21 of “21 Things I Wish I Could Tell Every Teen With Anxiety.”

But there’s one truth I want to slow down and focus on—because it’s one that gets teens and young adults stuck the most:

🧠 “You don’t have to stay who they remember you as.”

Anxiety makes us feel boxed in by the expectations of others.
You were the “smart one,” so now you feel like you’re not allowed to struggle.
You were the “quiet one,” so now speaking up feels uncomfortable—even though you’ve grown.
You were the “strong one,” so now asking for help feels like failure.

But people grow. And you’re allowed to, too.

You are allowed to shift.
You are allowed to change your mind.
You are allowed to outgrow relationships, routines, and roles that no longer feel right.

And no—you don’t need permission for that.

🙌 That’s the part I wish every anxious teen could hear loud and clear:
You are not stuck just because someone else wants you to be the same.

Whether it’s your parents, your teachers, or your friends…
They may struggle to understand your shift.
But that doesn’t make your growth wrong.

So here’s your challenge this week:

✍️ Write down one way you’ve changed—and be proud of it.
Maybe it’s the way you stand up for yourself now.
Maybe it’s how you’re finally setting boundaries.
Maybe it’s that you’re choosing rest instead of overworking to prove your worth.

Own that change.
Don’t downplay it.
You’ve worked for this version of yourself—and that matters.

And if the series has been helping you feel seen or supported, I’d love to hear about it—or feel free to forward it to someone who might need the reminder too.

You are not behind. You’re just growing.
Keep going.
